How does it work?cycle

Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovary and is the time during the cycle when a woman is more likely to become pregnant. Ovulation can be determined by monitoring the level of luteinizing hormone (LH) in the urine. LH is always present in the urine in small amounts. An increase ("surge") in LH is an indication that ovulation will occur within the next 24 - 40 hours. One step LH ovulation test midstream is a rapid and easy-to-use test. It is a qualitative test that can predict when there is a LH (luteinizing hormone) surge and in turn when you are likely to ovulate.

When to begin testing

Firstly, you must determine the length of your menstrual cycle. That is the number of days from the first day of your menstrual bleeding to the day before your next bleeding begins again. Please refer to the chart to determine when you should start the test. If your cycle is shorter than 21 days or longer than 38 days, consult your doctor for advice. If you do not know your cycle length, you may start the test on the 11th days after your first period since the average cycle length is 28 days. Perform one test each day over a 5-day period or until the LH surge has been detected.

Advice for sample urine collection

1. Do not use first morning urine samples as LH is synthesized early in the morning. It will not present in your urine until later in the day.

2. The best time to collect urine sample is between 10:00am-8:00pm.

3. Collect urine at the same period of time each day.

4. Reduce liquid intake 2 hours before collecting your urine as a diluted urine sample may yield a false result.

How to do the test

1. When you are ready to start the test, open the foil pouch by tearing along the notch. Take the test from the pouch and remove the cap to expose the absorbent sampler.

ovulation test

2. With the test pointing downwards, hold the absorbent sampler in your urine stream for 2-3 seconds (please do not stream pass the arrow end and not to splash the show window). Then you may replace the cap.

3. Hold the test for a few seconds or lay the test flat. When you see the urine pass the show window and red line appear, the test is complete and has worked correctly.

4. Read result at 10 minutes but no longer than 15 minutes.

How to read the results

Read the result at 10 minutes but no longer than 15 minutes. A red line appears in the right sector of the result window. That is the control line, which indicates the test works properly.

* Negative: Only one red line appears in the control line or the test line is lighter than the control line. That means LH concentration is lower than detect limits and ovulation will not occur during the next 40 hours.

* Positive: If two red lines are visible and the test line is equal to or darker than the control line, it means that you will probably ovulate in the next 24-40 hours. If you want to be pregnant, the best time to have intercourse is after 24 but before 40 hours.

* Invalid: A total absence of color in both lines indicates that the result is invalid. Repeat test with a new test midstream by following the steps carefully.

Questions and answers

Q: Will the test result be affected by food, alcohol or over the counter drugs?

A: Food, alcohol or common over the counter drugs such as aspirin, anti-histamines and cold medicine will not affect the test results.

Q: Can I use the test as a contraceptive device?

A: No. it is possible for sperm to survive up to 72 hours. The test predicts ovulation 24-40 hours prior to the release of the egg. Having intercourse just before the detection of the LH surge may also result in pregnancy.

Q: If the test shows positive result, when am I likely to become pregnant?

A: You are most likely to become pregnant the day of your positive result (LH surge) and the next day.

Q: Will the test be affected by prescription drugs?

A: Some drugs such as menotropins and danazol may interfere with the test results. Do the test 3 days after stop taking the drugs.

Storage and stability

The test midstream can be stored at temperature 4 to 30 in the sealed foil pouch and stay stable for duration of shelf life. The test midstream must be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat.

Before you begin

  1. Read instructions carefully before use and have a time (watch or clock) available.
  2. Do not open the pouch until you are ready to use.
  3. Do not use the test beyond expiry date.
  4. The test is for in-vitro diagnostic use ONLY.
  5. The test cannot be reused.

How does the test work?

Pregnant woman’s body produces a hormone call Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). HCG appears in urine and the secretion of HCG increases during the first trimester. Pregnancy may be determined as early as the first day of the missed period. Pregnancy test contains antibody which specifically react with HCG, and it can be used to detect the presence of HCG in urine in a qualitative way to assist confirmation of pregnancy.

How to do the test

 pregnancy test

1. When you are ready to begin testing, open the foil pouch by tearing along the notch. Take the test out of the pouch and remove the cap.

2. With the test pointing downwards, hold the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 2-3 seconds (please do not stream pass the arrow end and not to splash the show window). Then you might replace the cap on the absorbent tip.

3. Hold the test for a few seconds or lay the test flat. When you see the urine pass the show window and red line appear, the test is complete and has worked correctly. Read the result at 5 minutes but no longer than 15 minutes.

Note: Any urine specimen is appropriate for the HCG test midstream, but if you have just begun your pregnancy, the first morning urine is optimal.

How to read the results

Read the result at 5 minutes but no longer than 15 minutes. A red line appears in the right sector of the result window. That is the control line, which indicates the test works properly.

*Negative: If there is only one red line in the show window, it means that you are not pregnant.

*Positive: If there are two red lines appear in the show window, it means that you are likely to be pregnant.

*Invalid: A total absence of red lines in the show window is an indication of procedure error and/or that test reagent deterioration has occurred. You should do the test again using a new pregnancy test and follow the test procedure carefully.

Limitations

  1. A confirmed pregnancy diagnosis should only be made by a physician after evaluating all clinical and laboratory findings.
  2. Low concentration of HCG in very early pregnancy can give a negative result. In this case, another specimen should be collect at least 48 hours later and tested.
  3. The presence of HCG in urine can be caused by a few conditions other than pregnancy. Check with your doctor if you do not have consistent results.

Question and Answer:

Q: When to do the test?

A: The test can be used at any time of the day. But early morning urine specimen is highly recommended as it contains the highest concentration of HCG. Please do not drink too much water one hour before the test to avoid diluting HCG.

Q: If two lines appear and one line is darker than the other, am I pregnant?

A: Yes. The concentration of HCG may affect the color of the lines. If two lines appear, no matter which line is darker, you are likely to be pregnant.

Q: Can the test results be interpreted after 15 minutes

A: No. The test result should be read at 5 minutes but no longer than 15 minutes. The test is with 99% accuracy if the test result is read at the correct time. To avoid false result, and error, please read result s between 5-15 minutes.
